Electrical underfloor heating, large heated pool, and extensive irrigated grounds all contributed to the energy appetite of this prestigious mature property. Grid overloads, phase imbalance, and ever increasing energy bills were problems made significantly worse as this household took on multiple electric vehicles.

The challenge was to deliver a fully registered system, sympathetic to the prestige and maturity of the property, that not only could deliver energy security and extensive cost savings, whilst optimising the energy for the household’s EVs – but also be scalable to meet future demands.

With Victron Energy and Meterboost batteries, we built a system that has reduced grid take-up to less than 5% of its former annual consumption. The unique combination of DC and AC coupled solar meant we could register a unique self-consumption system, in compliance with Portuguese law, that was able to increase the supply of power available to the property, reduce bills significantly, and maintain uninterrupted energy security indefinitely.
